Still Hurting – ‘The Last Five Years’

Silent Noon

Recording, Mixing and Mastering

Working with singer Stephanie Seedhouse, I recorded her and accompanying piano in the Elgar Concert Hall in The University of Birmingham. I worked to record, mix and master the tracks to a professional quality, blending real and artificial ambience and mixing more than 20 seamless edit points. This was done as a part of the ‘Sound Recording’ module at UoB, for these tracks I scored a 78 (high first honours).

Acousmatic Soundscaping

Majoring into ‘Studio Composition’ at university opened my mind to acousmatic and electroacoustic music, a genre of Western art using technology to explore sound design and acoustic sampling. Creating soundscapes using only post processing on acoustic sounds has led me to tell stories through sound. Using the ‘BEAST’ 40-point sound system at University has taught me the depths of sound design, spacing and acoustics.

Immersion

This electroacoustic piece acts as a homage to the true peace found when practising an instrument. As a drummer, I often find myself escaping the noise of the outside world through practise.

Party Favours

This piece is my final presentation from my 2nd year in university. It is an exploration on drug use by students in club scenes, representing the disassociation and escapism that the subject experiences throughout the night.
